Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Chapter 6 Summary.
The Portkey
Chapter 6 of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, titled “The Portkey” involves Harry and the Weasleys making their way to Stoatshead Hill, towards the Portkey.
Early Morning Shenanigans
It is still dark outside when Molly wakes everyone up. Groggily, Harry heads downstairs to the kitchen with Ron and the twins.
Molly stirs a pot, and Arthur checks a sheaf of large parchment tickets. He is dressed in an old sweater and loose jeans to fit in with the Muggles.
Meanwhile, Ginny questions if they needed to wake up this early. In response, Molly explains they need to walk for a bit, so it would help if they started earlier. Bill, Charlie, and Percy would apparate to the location, so they could sleep in for longer.
All of a sudden, she notices something in George’s pockets and summons it using the Accio charm. A bunch of brightly colored objects zoom from his pocket straight into his mother’s hands.
Turns out, the twins had planned to sneak out as many candies as they could into the World Cup. She scolds them furiously and uses the Accio charm to extract more candies from their clothes.
Once Molly has confiscated all of the twins’ candies, the group heads out towards their destination. Fred and George sulk, and leave without saying a word to her.
Amos and Cedric Diggory
Arthur explains that transporting a large number of wizards to a large event is a big challenge. Some wizards use muggle transport, some like to apparate, while others use Portkeys. Portkeys are objects that can transport a large number of wizards together, at a predetermined time. For the World Cup, nearly 200 Portkeys have been arranged around Britain.
To reach the nearest Portkey, the group needs to walk to Stoatshead Hill. They arrive at the point with 10 minutes to spare and begin looking for the Portkey.
The group runs into Amos and Cedric Diggory. Arthur shakes his hand and introduces him as his colleague in the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He is the father of Cedric Diggory, Seeker, and Captain of Hufflepuff.

Amos sees Harry and is surprised like people tend to be. He boasts about the time when Cedric beat him in their Quidditch match, but Cedric is humble about it. Trying to speed things along, Arthur checks his watch and urges the group to hurry up.
Amos had already found the Portkey, a moldy old boot. Everyone gathers around to grab it and waits for it to activate.
The chapter ends the Portkey transports the group to their destination. Not being accustomed to Portkeys, Ron staggers into Harry and falls over.
