Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Chapter 5 Summary.
Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes
Chapter 5 of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, titled “Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes” deals with Mrs Weasley’s expectations for the twins, and a cheerful dinner.
Welcome to the Burrow
Harry lands in the Burrow’s kitchen. Fred immediately asks him if Dudely ate the toffee, and Harry says yes. Everyone erupts in laughter, and Harry notices two red-haired people that he hasn’t met yet. He assumes them to be Bill and Charlie Weasley, Ron’s elder brothers.
Charlie gets up to shake Harry’s hand. It is calloused and blistered, which does not come as a surprise to Harry, since Charlie works with dragons. Bill also gets up to shake his hand, and Harry notes that he looks cool. His hair is tied back into a ponytail, and he wears an earring with a fang.
A few moments later, Arthur returns. He is angrier than Harry has ever seen him and yells at Fred for giving Dudely the candy. Fred cleverly argues that he merely dropped the candy, and Arthur tells him that Dudely’s tongue grew to four feet in length by the time he could help. Everyone roars with laughter, which angers Arthur further. He threatens to tell on the twins to their mother, and she overhears the threat as she walks in.
She asks Arthur what is it he wants to tell her, but he hesitates. She gets angry and warns that it’d better not be about the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.
Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes
The trio exits the kitchen along with Ginny to show Harry his room. Harry asks about the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, and both Ron and Ginny laugh. Ron explains that Fred and George had been making joke items like fake wands and trick sweets, and were planning on selling them in Hogwarts. Mrs Weasley found some of their order forms and banned them from selling anything since a lot of their products were dangerous. She was already mad at them since she wanted them to work for the Ministry, but they want to open a joke shop.
The group runs into Percy, who asks them not to make noise. He is working on a report on cauldron thickness for the Department of International Magical Cooperation. Ron makes fun of him for it, and Percy goes pink and retreats to his room.
They make their way to Ron’s room. He explains that Fred and George would be sleeping with them since Bill and Charlie took over their room. Percy gets to keep his room since he needs to work. Harry asks if Percy enjoys work, and Ron replies that he is obsessed.
Hermione realizes that the others had stopped arguing in the kitchen, and suggests they go help Mrs Weasley with dinner.
As there is no space in the house for eleven people, Mrs Weasley plans to set a table up in the garden. She is in a bad mood from the argument earlier, and it shows. She mutters instructions for the trio to set the table, and vents about how the twins are wasting their potential.
Dinner Table Conversation
The trio hurries off to help Bill and Charlie in the garden. A very loud crashing noise was coming from the other side of the house, which turned out to be from a game between Bill and Charlie. They both had their wands out, and were making two battered tables smash against each other. Ginny is laughing at the scene, while Hermione cannot decide whether to be amused or anxious.
By seven, everyone gathers around the table and sits down to eat. The sky is a clear, deep blue. It feels like paradise to Harry, whose meals so far had consisted of stale cake in his room. Percy and Arthur talk about affairs at the Ministry. Their conversation shifts to Bertha Jorkins, who went to Albania a month ago and nver came back. Nobody knows of her whereabouts as of now.
Next to them, Mrs Weasley was bugging Bill about his earring. She also calls his hair silly, and lovingly asks him to let her trim it.

By the time dinner is over, Harry feels extremely well-fed and at peace. He does not have a care in the world and watches the garden gnomes play amongst each other.
Ron looks around to check if everyone else is busy talking, and asks Harry if he has heard from Sirius. Harry wrestles between the urge to tell him about the reason he wrote to Sirius, but didn’t want to worry him.
Mrs Weasley announces that everyone should head to bed now. She asks Harry to leave his shopping list out so she can do his shopping along with the others.
The chapter ends as the family gets up from the table, still engaged in cheerful conversation.
