The next day, the trio sits together to butt heads on what could have happened to Crouch. Harry recounts how Crouch wasn’t making much sense, but seemed to know where he was and what he wanted to do.

He complains that if Snape hadn’t held him up, they might have reached there in time. Hermione suggests talking to Moody, but the trio overhears someone coming and stops talking. It is Fred and George, and they have just been discussing blackmailing someone.

Ron asks who they plan to blackmail, and Fred threatens him to mind his business. The twins send their letter, advise Ron to stop telling people what to do, and leave the Owlery grinning.

The trio discusses what it could have been about, and is scared that the twins might be playing with the law. However, there isn’t much they can do, so they leave the Owlery and head to breakfast.

After breakfast, the trio heads to meet Moody. Harry asks him if he found Mr Crouch, but he did not, even after using the map.

Moody tells the trio there isn’t much they can do for Crouch, and advices Harry to keep his mind on the third task.

The next morning, Sirius’s reply arrives. He scolds Harry for wandering off with Krum alone at night, and makes him promise he won’t repeat this. He reminds Harry that there is someone in Hogwarts who wants to harm him, and advices him to practice a few curses.

Harry doesn’t like Sirius asking him to not go out of bounds, but Hermione insists he is just worried. Harry argues that no one has attacked him all year. Instead, they waited for him to leave Krum and Crouch alone before they kidnapped the latter.

A Weird Dream

Regardless, for the next few days Harry stays indoors. His free time goes in either looking up hexes in the library, or practicing them in empty classrooms. He makes quite some progress on the stunning spell, but it requires some sacrifice on Hermione and Ron’s part.

After a nasty session with the stunning spells, the boys head off to divination. They have almost finished their work on planetary divination, and are examining the position of Mars today. Trelawney turns the lamps off, and they begin examining a model of the Solar System.

The atmosphere of the room makes Harry droopy, and he dozes off. He dreams about riding the back of an eagle owl. The owl flies inside a house and into a room whose windows are boarded up. He leaves the owl, and watches it flutter across the room onto a chair with its back to him. He sees two dark figures on the floor, one a huge snake and the other a man.

A cold voice comes from the chair, telling Wormtail that he wouldn’t be fed to Nagini after all, since his blunder did not ruin everything. Wormtail thanks ‘his lord’, but it is too soon. As punishment for his blunder, the voice attacks Wormtail with the Cruciatus Curse. Wormtail screams with pain, and Harry’s scar sears with pain too, making him yell as well.

Dumbledore’s Office

Harry wakes up. He was lying on Trelawney’s floor with his hands over his face, his scar still burning bad. Trelawney gets excited and asks if Harry had a premonition or perhaps an apparition, but Harry excuses himself to go to the Hospital wing.

However, instead of the Hospital wing, he follows Sirius’s advice and sets off for Dumbledore’s office. He approaches the Gargoyle, and tries out a bunch of passwords. Finally, ‘Cockroach Cluster’ works and he walks inside, but stops midway.

He hears voices coming from inside. From the looks of it, Moody Fudge and Dumbledore are all engaged in an intense discussion regarding Crouch. Fudge is of the opinion that Fudge either cracked, or Madam Maxime did something, since she is a half giant.

The chapter ends as Moody asks to wrap the discussion up, since his magical eye has seen Harry outside the door.
